This lens is a nice addition to the Olympus E-PL1 14-42mm kit lens. It is fairly compact for a zoom lens, and not much longer then the 14-42mm. Sharpness seems rather good from my initial tests. It seems to be at least as sharp as the 14-42mm. It is wider in diameter of course, since it is a Four Thirds lens. The build quality is okay for the price and shouldn’t be a problem for most people. The only downside is the focusing. It is rather slow to focus, and because it is f/4. 0-5. 6, it is best used outside in good lighting. The adapter is lightweight and mostly plastic but is sturdy enough for normal use. The included hood can be turned around and screwed onto the lens when stowing it away.

I just recently bought the new Olympus pen EPL-1 and so I am getting used to it. But so far I have been impressed! This zoom lens has allowed me to take some great action shots from a long distance and the photo has been nice and clear when I zoom in on it without the graininess that I would have had with a point and shoot. I have two relatives that used Nikon DSLR’s and they saw some of my photos on the LCD screen and said it takes pictures just as good (or sometimes better) than theirs did! I like the light-weight, compactness that goes along with it. I would highly recommend this lens to anyone looking for a medium size zoom!
